Tanjung Aan

Tanjung Aan is a long, fun accessible wave, which can cater to all levels depending on the size and conditions. It does get more powerful on a bigger day. On a smaller day it is a favourite for beginners and longboarders.

It’s situated at a nice white sand beach where you can relax, lay on a beach chair, and eat at several warungs.

Best Surf Conditions

Tanjung Aan is best with light or offshore winds or it will be blown out. It works on all swell sizes but gains a lot of size and power as it gets bigger. Tanjung Aan needs to be surfed on a mid-high tide (above ~1m), otherwise it is too shallow.

Surf Crowd Levels

Tanjung Aan is a popular spot, often visited by surf camps, and crowd levels are generally high. Despite this, the vibe in the water is usually pretty friendly.

Do You Need Reef Boots?

Booties are not required for any of the South Lombok Breaks. However, if you simply feel a lot more comfortable wearing them if there is any chance you will touch the reef, you could wear booties at Tanjung Aan. It does get shallow if you stay on the wave all the way.

How to Get To Tanjung Aan Surf Spot

Take an easy scooter ride about 15 minutes East from Kuta to Tanjung Aan Beach, just before Gerupuk.

From there you can either hire a boat for 25,000 IDR each way, or it is also possible to paddle from the beach if you have the energy for a long paddle. You could also choose to get a boat out and then paddle back in. Boats can be hired from near Pink Swing Resto, or many of the other restaurants – just ask around. The main break is the reef in the middle of the bay.
