Serangan Surf Break

Serangan boasts an amazing, long right-hand wave with a fast and steep takeoff. As one of the best surf spots in South Lombok, it offers a consistent wave in terms of where and how it breaks and peels, making it the perfect place for practicing different techniques and maneuvers. However, it is worth noting that the break is easily affected by the wind.

Best Surf Conditions at Serangan

Serangan should be surfed on a mid-low tide, as it gets a strong current on a mid-high tide that will leave you paddling non-stop. It is also a very fickle spot, sensitive to the slightest wind, which will muck up the current and the waves very easily. For the cleanest conditions, it is best to surf Serangan on a low wind day, or early in the morning before the trade winds kick in.

Check the Serangan surf forecast before you head out.

Surf Crowd Levels

Crowd levels are generally low compared to other South Lombok surf breaks like Gerupuk or Mawi.

Do You Need Reef Boots?

Booties are not strictly required for any of the South Lombok breaks. However, if you prefer extra protection, this is one of the places you might want to wear them. Accessing the wave requires a walk across the reef, and depending on how far you ride the wave, you could end up over shallow reef where you might touch the bottom.

How to Get To Serangan Surf Spot

Serangan is one of the few breaks in the Kuta Lombok area where a boat isn’t needed. Take a scooter ride to Pantai Serangan, where you will pay a small amount (usually around 10,000 IDR) to park. You can also access the beach from various other roads. From there, you walk to the left across the reef to get to the break.

It can be tricky to know where to go if you haven’t been here before, so you could ask around the local warungs for some info or hire a local surf guide if it’s your first time.

Remote Work & Connectivity at Serangan

While Pantai Serangan is relatively remote, mobile data coverage (Telkomsel) is generally decent on the beach. However, don’t expect high-speed Wi-Fi at the local warungs. If you are a digital nomad needing to jump on a call after your session, it is best to head back to Kuta (about a 20-30 minute ride) where co-working spaces offer the stable connection you’ll need.
